EKE selected by CRRC Australia for the Melbourne HCMT Project

EKE’s TCMS will be used on board the High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMT) in Melbourne, Australia.

The Victorian Government is investing in 65 next-generation high capacity trains for Melbourne’s metropolitan network. The $2.3 billion investment is the largest single order of new trains in Victoria’s history and will be delivered through a Public Private Partnership with Evolution Rail, a consortium comprising of Downer, CRRC and Plenary.

EKE will provide the Train Control and Management Systems (TCMS) for the High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMT) project in Australia. Train Communication Network (TCN), Selective Door Control (SDC), Rugged Event Recorders and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) are also part of the scope of delivery.

The HCMTs will be manufactured using at least 60 per cent local content and will be built in Victoria at Downer’s Newport manufacturing facility. These trains will be the newest in Melbourne’s metropolitan fleet, are longer than existing trains, will be capable of carrying about 20 per cent more passengers and will progressively enter service from mid-2019.
